I would love to hear your thoughts on her Lilith's Brood. Given your insights into this book as well as your full disclosure above, you'd have some fascinating things to say!
Haven't picked that one up yet. . . was probably planning Parable of Sower for my next foray into Butler's work. But if my full disclosure is relevant, maybe I'll rearrange that. . . ;)
Whenever I read it, I'll try to remember to go through your archives and find your review. . . that's one you've reviewed, right?
I haven't yet read any of the Parable books, so I can't comment there, but I have read and reviewed Lilith's Brood so you'll be able to look that one up for sure!
I'm fascinated by the issues of consent in Fledgling too, and loved the characters also. It was actually the first Butler book I ever read, and for quite some time after I only read Butler when she wrote in the first person. I love Xenogenesis/Lilith's Brood (it's been omnibused under both titles).
I've been unable to read Wild Seed to this day because of those tricky, mixed issues of consent - I can't figure them out in that novel, and it disturbs me so much I find it hard to read.
Yeah, Wild Seed is definitely trickier on that front. . . *thinking how to say what I want to say without spoilers* The consent aspect never gets any easier to read in that book, but the stuff about how to build families makes it worth it, I think.
