Miles Vorkosiga Fic: At the end of the road

This is my very first Vorkosigan fic. As I've read the entire saga (except for Winterfair Gifts) in Spanish, there're probably many mistakes. If anyone is insterested in beta reading this, you'll make me very, very happy and grateful. Now onto the fic:

Thanks! I've corrected the mistakes you pointed out: it was chills and not"cmountains" *Phoenix slaps her forehead* As my beta told me that the Dendarii were mountains instead of hills, I used the replace words tool, replacing the word "hills" by "mountains"... and somehow "chills" became "cmountains".
By the way, I love your icon!

I give up. I've never been one of those smart readers who could figure out all of the subtext -- I know (I mean, I think) "he" is supposed to be Miles ... is "she" Elena? Or ... Elli? Or ... I'm completely off ..?

You're not completely off at all: they are, indeed, Miles and Elli. Or at least that was the idea in my head: you can interpret it as you like. One of the readers told me it could be Miles and Cavilo. Although that never crossed my mind, it's interesting to see people's different interpretations.

Very nice! I liked the parallels to Cordelia/Aral, but it seemed very clear from the description at the start that it was Elli.

Thanks to you! I was afraid I had not made myself clear enough. Even though I don't mind hearing different interpretations (some of them are really interesting), in my mind they were always Miles and Elli and I'm glad you could see it too.

This is really powerful.

It's not a situation I expected to be reading about, because their relative states of health are such that we could reasonably expect Ekaterin to outlive Miles. So to have a story where he's widowed late in life and Elli Quinn finally gives up on her spacer life to be a "dirtsucker" is quite something.

Even though I adore Ekaterin, I've always found so sad the way Miles and Elli's relationship seemed doomed from the very beginning and wondered what a second chance for them could be like, after they'd both pursued their dreams and were able to meet again, somewhere halfway.
