Oh, AWESOME!

This was my prompt and wow, you did it more than justice!

I love the entire new history you created here - the longer era to gain the Jaffa's trust without Teal'c, the absence of closer ties to the Asgard without Jack, the lack of experience with the Ancients without Daniel. Marvelous stuff.

Thanks for giving Cassie a rich, vivid life. :)

*blushes*

Thank you for liking it!

I am intrigued by the way the Stargate universe would have developed without SG-1. I mean, obviously from what happens in 1969, we can assume they didn't bury the Stargate, as SG1 had to come out of the gate in the future. And without the good connection to the Asgard through Jack, everything had to be a lot harder. But since Cassie isn't really in the SGC during the first years I wasn't sure how much I could elaborate on that.

And thanks for the prompt, it really stood out to me.

(Your comment reminds me: I'm still wondering whether this story would officially be classified as gen or het. I feel like it completely doesn't fit either catgory. Any thoughts from a gen-er?)

Heh. Good question!

If I was reccing this, I would classify it as gen, but add "references to Cassie/other." I believe some people would call it "Bob" - which means that the main thrust of the story is gen, and the ship is incidental (but there).

I personally have a much greater tolerance for incidental ship if it's not with canon characters (and the OC in question isn't a Mary Sue). It's incidental ship tacked onto a wholly gen story between members of the team that drives me nuts. There's a charming team fic out there that turns slashy in the very last paragraph, with no suggestion of it in the rest of the fic at all. It was... frustrating, to say the least!

But your fic is lovely. I wouldn't Cassie not to have her long and satisfying life, including a husband and children. So thanks again. :)

That's strange. I might get it if it was written for someone who wanted that pairing, but even then it's strange.

And "Bob" sounds funny. I shall remember that expression ;)

Fascinating look at Cassie's life without SG1. Interesting how some things changed and other things stayed the same. Janet, for instance. And you have Hammond and Cassie rarely speaking - is this a choice based on the lack of Sam or simply your canon? Despite all the fics where Hammond is like a grandfather to her, I see them as staying quite separate, except when Cass is on base and then he would say hello etc.

Actually, in my mind they do hang out a lot, but only after Janet dies - the father figure she has in place of Jack. But then she goes away for college and starts her own life in a way.

Interesting how some things changed and other things stayed the same. Janet, for instance.

I contemplated letting Janet live. But then her loss wouldn't be the same punch in the gut, I suppose, with losing both Sam and Janet and the rest of SG-1. I am an evil author to my characters ;)

Ow, ow, ow!! This was filled with so many hurts. And I am always fascinated by the stories that investigate how making one turn differently can change everything so dramatically.
Good job, very satisfying read.

Ooh, this is the story you meant, when you mentioned Furling future fic!

I really enjoyed the look at AU Cassie, and at the future SGC from her POV. Brilliant last line!

Yes, I sort of incorporated the other Furling-prompt :)

Thank you!
