Title: After Eli Fandom: Sports Night Characters: Dan Rydell, Isaac Jaffee Word count: 600 Rating: G, gen Written: 1 May 2010 for Sorkinverse challenge #24: random pairings
You just know that, once he got over the first shock, all Isaac felt was really pissed off and determined to get right back on his feet - that's the sort of man he is. Dan knows that, of course, but he still had to be sure.
All I *still* know of the show is those bits I watched on YouTube a while back - the full series is on my Netflix queue, and I will get to it at some point, although as someone once told me, "'Someday' hasn't arrived yet." But...it's a hallmark of the best fic that you can come in cold, and STILL know what's going on. Still understand the emotion and the circumstances and still enjoy the story for the lovely little piece of craftsmanship that it is, particularly when the subject matter is something we universally understand.
Beautifully done. I wish your fandom were larger, and/or more attentive, so you could get the attention you deserve.
Truthfully, this piece got pretty good feedback, so I can't complain. Almost none from the comm it was written for, but you can't win 'em all. I'm twice as grateful for the people who do comment.
I already commented over at sorkinverse, but reading this again, I'm struck more by the relationship between Dan and Isaac, which had never totally clicked with me before. How much Dan loves and admires Isaac, and maybe can find some hope for his own redemption in Isaac's example.
That's okay, there aren't all that many SN fans around so I'm quite happy to have people comment twice. Under pseudonyms and whilst wearing false noses if need be.
The Dan-Isaac relationship is possibly my favourite thing about the show: they're the heart and the soul of Sports Night, although I'm not 100% certain which is which.
Lovely. Quiet and calm, and despairing. You can really see Dan's love/respect for Isaac, and despite Isaac not speaking, not really appearing in the story, you still get a sense of who he is as a person, how proud he is.

Dan and Isaac's special bond is one of my favourite things about the show. Even if Isaac does have it with other people too.
