Dan, the character in Sports Night, had a nervous breakdown in the show's second season, which was (unusually for television) very well done. It's generated a lot of fanfic in the years since then!

Poor Danny! I think that's got to be one of the worst feelings - knowing there's something wrong but not being able to fix it. I wish I could hug him. (And you as well.)
