The kids went back to school on Thursday.  B was raring to go and M didn't want to go.  At all.  He did ok in the end and managed to make it through the first (very short) week without getting into trouble.  We'll see how that goes.

J is back with the childminder, though to be honest, he did go to her a bit over the summer.  Still, my childcare ( Read more... )

My word it's all go. FWIW I think it's good you're doing what you need to do. I think I'm regretting that we've not, and we've missed the date for the most preferred school, with regard to being in catchment (by today it was) though ok for others till Dec if necessary. She has first tests next Saturday, for 4 weeks running. Wish it was just one day and over with!

Mine go back on Wed. I suggested yours might be back already and he said, no, never in Aug, so I shall enjoy telling him that!

(I won't regret if she gets in anyway, but she has to be in top 10% to get in out of catchment, and only top 25% if in, and she just has no oomph for timed tests...).

I feel really torn about the whole thing. I hope things work out for M - this whole thing is just so tricky. In a way, I wish B were in a similar situation to M - he'd do the test and either he gets in or he doesn't. Yes, mine have gone back to school in August before but I think it's been a few years.

One thing that does irk me, though, is the fact that there will be a lot of comments from other parents and some not very nice.

I can appreciate that. We have same thing about doing the tests (11+). Blinkers on, do what works for u. Would have been worse where we used to live. 900 for 100 places at grammar and the local comp a sink school. At least here they are all pretty good, so we can't lose really. Hope it's same for you.

Thanks. It's just so much on top of everything else that's going on. I so don't have the energy for a move right now :-/ Unfortunately the schools here aren't all good. Let me know how M does xx
