Movie ruminations - Beasts of the Southern Wild

So last night a friend, the boy, and I watched Beasts of the Southern Wild, a film I've been shy about seeing since it seemed to hold so much potential. I'd say, although the movie wasn't what I was expecting, we came out on the other side well enough: all three of us mostly enjoyed it; there was ample, realistic dramatic tension; the characters

Good point about narration in film -it can be a pretty hard sell.

Later, when I learned this movie was originally a play, I thought I could see how it might really work in theater - provided they kept up with the magical realism.
