um. just additional opinions XD I'm not 100% sure with my english here, they may mean the same thing. I would translate the repeated line as 'This is a square without (any) hope' just cos they haven't lost hope in the square but people have lost hope. er.. I may even be confusing myself. haha. you would know better for this one.
For the line 广场上曾经奔跑的青年, the youths are the subject in this sentence, so you could swap the translation around to 'The youths who once ran on/along/across this square'.
