Herb garden!

Since it's the middle of winter, the ground is covered in at least a foot and a half of snow, and the temperature's at a balmy 8 degrees out right now, my roommate and I thought it would be a good time to start planning out the herb garden we hope to plant this year ( Read more... )

I should probably preface this with a caveat that I hate gardening and never do it voluntarily ... but I also went to hippie schools where I was required to do a bit of it and learn rather more about it than I cared to, so I have a few half-answers to some of your questions ( ... )

Oh wait HERBS. Nevermind. I've only ever grown them in window-pots, and then seldom successfully.

Well, we were thinking of throwing a few other plants in (definitely tomatoes), too, so your advice is still helpful!

if you're talking strictly an herb garden, i love basil. rosemary is good, too... it smells awesome and you can eat it or make soap out of it or something. mint TAKES OVER. don't plant it. here in idaho, we've had success with everything i already mentioned (except mint... seriously, just don't) and oregano and coriander. i didn't find any of them hard to grow, but they were outside. the plants vary on their hardiness, etc ( ... )

Basil is an absolute MUST. We'd really like cilantro, too, but neither one of us has had much success with it so far. I didn't know that about mint - is it any kind of mint that will take over ( ... )
