Jack was still reeling from the Doctor's proposal (the Doctor! proposing! marriage! and commitment! Those were all words that he'd never thought would fit together in the same sentence, unless coupled with a 'never ever') when he started thinking about practicalities.

"Where do you want to have the ceremony?"

"Oh, whereever you want." The Time Lord replied with a careless flick of his hand. "I'm not picky."

"Woman Wept."

"Isn't that a bit cold? I mean for you humans, it wouldn't bother me, but there'd be a lot of standing about, not to mention the snow squalls."

Jack hadn't thought about that. "Good point. Okay, how about springtime in Hawaii?"

"Bit of a cliche - you can go anywhere and anywhen you want and you want to go there? Really, Jack?"

"The Eye of Orion? Nice and peaceful."

"Been there a million times. Besides, since when have you and I done nice and peaceful?"

"Point taken. Okay, the Forest of Cheem. I've heard that's nice."

"No."

"Is that all, just - no?"

"Bad memories." the Doctor murmured, staring at his trainers and rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry."

"Oh, sweethearts." Jack bundled the Doctor up in his arms and kissed him several times. "Well, we have to decide on something."

The Doctor smiled slightly. "I have an idea."

a few weeks later

The ceremony was short but radiant. The Doctor wore his tuxedo; Jack wore his military dress uniform. Martha was the maid of honor and gave the Doctor away; Ianto was Jack's best man. Gwen caught the flowers Jack threw over his shoulder.

The Doctor looked around the medium-sized room they'd just been married in, smiling softly at the swooping falls of deep blue ribbon dip between white pillars, gracefully outlining a small dance floor. "Care to dance, Jack?"

"With you, always."

The ceiling had transformed into hundreds of softly twinkling stars, and the music was soft, romantic and inviting. Ianto was dancing with Martha, and Gwen with Rhys. The Doctor rested his head on Jack's shoulder. "This was a good idea."

"It was a good idea. Besides, we couldn't get married without our best girl, could we?" Jack directed this last comment at the air; the TARDIS hummed happily, caught up in the bliss of her Doctor and the day. "Yes, having the wedding on the TARDIS was the perfect idea."
