And then you've got 'ad-renal' glands which sit on top of your kidneys - I always figured I was a complete dork for thinking of it that way, but. I love medical terminology or any scientific terminology really - once you see the patterns to it, it's all organized and fun :)
My favourite: cephalosporin as a designation for certain types of antibiotic. It doesn't refer to the octopus, but rather to the head like nature of the spores (of genus Cephalosporium, discovered around 1830 by August Corda) they come from. The antibiotics themselves, were discovered in 1948 by Giuseppe Brotzu.
