Today looks mostly pretty good so far (except that the kid's dentist doublebooked herself and now we have to put off his appointment ANOTHER WEEK (god this is so damn annoying!) I meet with the PT and OT today, so i'll be out all day. Hopefully I'll be back with some good news.

Some clickies for you while I'm out, brought to you by awils1, platofish, miintikwa and machineplay. ( Read more... )

Medical terminology class is so cool! Before I got my current job, I went to a vo-tech college for two semesters to pick up some more advanced computer skills and I talked my way into taking the medical terminology class as well. (In truth, I lied my ass off and told them I wanted to be a medical transcriptionist, which I did not.) It was a blast.

Okay, for learning where people like her are coming from, that last article was sort of useful, but as far as understanding the experience of empathics (or trying to) I had all kinds of problems. Starting with the "I don't think of empathy as ..." I just wanted to scream "that's because you don't experience it! But don't discount that others do!"

I don't know if I scale anywhere on the autistic spectrum, but I do know that I have stronger than average empathic abilities. (This is, in part, why we had so much difficulty as friends before you were on your meds.)
It is also how I can quickly identify people who are being "helpful" out of fear or insecurity, rather than those who really are acting out of caring or thoughtfulness.

"Empathy" is not a learned predictive thing, the learned predictive behavior is in learning to deal with the input overload. I keep my "shields" up most of the time these days.

I just got the chai sampler from Adagio teas. I might go back for some green or herbal when I have the space for it. Now, I'm thinking about putting my hair up or leaving it down to go to an interview for a house - I'm thinking I'll put it back into a braid, but add a headband.
