"What did he do?" she asked, her mouth dry.

"Nothing. I mean, it was normal. A few times, he tucked me into bed. Watched parades with me. Gave me presents. I was a bit scared of him, but I think it was because I could tell that--that other people were scared. But ... that was why I believed everyone, when they said he was a glorious hero." He held her tightly, and she put her head down on his shoulder. "He seemed glorious to me. Perhaps--perhaps that was the same mistake I made later, trusting people who seemed glorious and generous even when I should have known better."

Late to the party, but...not fair making me cry when I'm staying up late to finish work. Both halves of this fic made me cry, which is even less fair. ;) As always, thank you.
