So I saw a meme a while ago where you say what particular characters would do if they were offered the One Ring. Here's my Barrayaran version

Well, a lot of the characters have been offered or held or wanted vast power at various times, so the parallels are kind of there.

Ivan Vorpatril: like hobbits, in a way. I can totally see it.

Ivan does strike me as a bit hobbity. He likes his quiet life full of simple pleasures and without too much to worry about.

Yeah, I think Ekaterin would probably forget to take help. And Roic. Oh, yes. Send them together, that'll work.

The Cetagandans already have it ;-). But it's not pretty enough for them.

Piotr would use it too.

Wasn't Ges refered to as "gaudily Evil" by Cordelia in SOH? That's Sauron to a T. ;)

I say this with love, but I can't imagine Miles not using it if it came his way. He teters on the brink so much that he'd grab it and go over before anyone else. "Whatever you say Gregor" and "2 out of 3 for your heart vs. your heart's desire don't cut it for the One Ring. Unless Ivan was there.

I don't think it would drive Miles mad. I think he would come up with a cunning plan to a) deactivate it b) reproduce it or c) give it to Ivan!

Oh, it would start with lots of fantastically cunning plans! I'm just not sure where it would end after all the plans were over and the Ring was still there.
