Barrayar cover

There's a new cover for Barrayar! And one which shows an actual recognisable picture of something that happened in the books! I can't seem to link directly to it, but it's the top left of the thumbnails on the artist's site. Cordelia and her shopping bag! Drou and a uterine replicator! Bothari! The Imperial Residence burning down! I think the ( Read more... )

Oooh, that looks actually good! *stares*

Here's a direct link, btw. You don't get the description that way, though.

Ah, thanks for that!

And I know! Bujold covers rarely do anything other than make you cringe, but that one is both a pretty picture AND it fits the book.

Some of the covers are so bad it's almost beyond belief. I have no idea how anyone could have thought they were a good idea! But yes, this is really lovely. I hope the artist does more Bujold covers.

You've probably figured this out from your other milSF reading, but Baen is known for their horrific covers. I'm so glad they commissioned new covers for the Honorverse reprints about 5 years back.

That's AMAZING. And along with everything you mentioned, Cordelia and Drou are wearing recognizably Barrayaran fashions! (So is Kou, but that's not hard for the men, just do something vaguely military).

If that artist redoes the covers for the entire Vorkosigan saga I will cheerfully replace my entire collection.

Yes, the bolero and matching dress! Though the detail I really like is the Residence on fire in the background - that's the sort of thing that shows that the artist really was paying attention.

Goodness, you're right -- a cover that makes sense! I immediately had the same thought as professor about the bolero jackets, too.

(I must admit to being amused that the replicator looks so much like R2D2, however.)

Edit for code fail; sorry.

Yeah, it does a bit, doesn't it! And, looking more closely, the sword is there too, sans sheath. Full marks to the artist.
