I love the way you seamlessly fill in LMB's background. The books show so little of Rulf Vorhalas, but he's obviously important to Aral, and his sacrifice has always made me want to understand more about why. She makes it clear that the two families had a considerable amount of history together, and you give the minor characters an opportunity to show that they are real people too, more than plot devices.

Thanks! I always liked what little we saw of Rulf too, and once you think that he must have known Aral for many years, then you start to wonder what he thought of the various events we're told about from Aral's youth. I'm glad this worked for you.
