:D

I really like Sharon Jones, but STILL haven't gotten around to checking out a full album. Must remedy that. There's just too much good music out there. /first world problems

Yes, yes, yes, and YES! Gorgeous photos of gorgeous women!

Adore so many of these. PJ, a goddess. Sheila Chandra, gorgeous. Nina Simone... have you heard her "Pirate Jenny?" Gives me chills. Sinead has been acting very oddly lately (please someone, shut down her Twitter account for her own sake) but that voice. I wasn't the biggest Cyndi Lauper fan back in the day but she has aged so amazingly and has remained as funky and stylish and uniquely individual *and* completely inspirational.

Zoe Keating is coming to town soon and I'd love to see her.

For my music collection, I would add Siouxsie, Lisa Gerrard, Liz Fraser, Alison Moyet, Kim Deal, Kim Gordon, Margo Timmins, Debbie Harry, Soap&Skin and Shirley Manson.

Oh, yes yes! LOVE the absolutely disconcerting quality of her vocals in that song. She's just... one of kind, truly. Sinéad's on Twitter? Oh, honey, no. Thanks to my free subscription to EW, I've heard a bit about her recent marriage shenanigans and rantings. Twitter is the last thing she needs.

You should see Zoe. I assume it will be a sit-down affair, so at least that would be an improvement upon what went wrong with the last show.

*nods* So many not mentioned. Would've probably run into LJ's character limit if I'd tried. *g* I even had pic of the Deal sisters uploaded to Photobucket, then skipped it because the post was seeming too long.

I would have loved to see Nina Simone live. Legend!

Zoe will be a sit-down affair, although the venue doesn't hand out seating until night of and you have to show up two hours before show time for your seat assignment. I haven't bought a ticket yet, so we'll see. But yes, sitting = much happier halfdutch!

I think my favorite Sinead song is "You Made Me the Thief of Your Heart" from the "In the Name of the Father" soundtrack. Chills! But oh, she needs some serious help. :-/

Personally, if I could have been any female singer, I'd have loved to be Sarah Vaughan, PJ or Jarboe.

Same here. Damn straight. :)

Oh, what a pain in the ass! Either have advanced reserved seating or actual gen. ad. Not everyone can make a show that early. Ah well, if you decide to go, I hope you get a good spot and have a fabulous time.

YES. Love that song too. That and "I Am Stretched On Your Grave" (the mad fiddle at the end = GUH) are probably my favorite Sinéad songs.

I think I'd go with Neko, just because I'd love to be able to belt like she does. Even when I sang regularly in school, I never had that kind of strength or ability to project.

So much talent - and so many names I don't know. And what gorgeous photos. I would add Emmylou Harris, who was and is, in her perhaps quieter way, one of the forces in country/Americana and an outrageously good talent scout.

You know, I actually had an Emmylou photo uploaded, but (as I told halfdutch about excluding a pic of Kim and Kelly Deal), the post was starting to feel too long and I thought I ought to cut back somewhere. But what the hell. Here's the photo I was going to use:

WOW!!! great list. I'm going to use it to music browse a few of the unknowns to me :) Ani and the IG's *g* we are apparently the same age and ilk...no one I've seen live as many times as "the girls"! and may I add to that Tracy Chapman. There is no world where I can get enough of voice or songwriting for that matter.

I think the Indigo Girls "Swamp Ophelia" was the first cd I bought, back when I had to bite the bullet and give up the cassettes:P Technology really chaps my ass.

Ah, cool. :) I've never seen Tracy Chapman live. My tally for seeing the Decemberists live is probably higher than the Indigo Girls now, but just barely. The only time I tailgated at a concert was one of theirs, LOL.

back when I had to bite the bullet and give up the cassettes

Hee, I remember being so reluctant about that too. Like: "Is this really going to last or be another fad?"
