it's like they were doing the caricature version of Dean there.
I've been floating around in reviews, trying to puzzle out why I can't seem to flail over the Dean bits of this ep and, yeah, I think this is why, too. It's as if the writer had Sam down PAT, but had nooo grasp on Dean or his motivations. Every line - the 'sugar' and Dean's quips about sloppy joes and cheerleaders and EVEN the full-cowgirl thing - just felt over the top and cheesy. And lets not even get into the I'M A HERO, A HERO!!1! bit. {That Brock kid sounded like Dean when he was with Colin, but. He sounded all northerner alone?}
I am still LOLing over your wee!dean/dick comment. BUT YES, YES YOU COULD SEE> And he was hangin to the left. ghdjk that's my favorite scene in the whole ep, jeez.
I LOVE this episode for the Sam, but that's mostly it.
ALSO. I missed Dom on Craig? OMG, those are always the best! ALAS.

Exactly. After watching the ep. a second time, I found teen!Dean a little more acceptable (although the constantly mutating accent is still off-putting--it was like the Grease version of Dean). But there's definitely an imbalance in the way the boys are handled. Which seems unusual for Show. And yet? Am still totally in love with this episode. And in a way it almost makes sense, because this was so much about Sam's struggle and his (sometimes self-made) isolation. He doesn't reach out to Dean, so Dean gets pushed to the background inadvertently.
Left, eh? Oh, I'll have to study it a few more times to verify that. Research, it's such a drag. ;P
Their mad banter is the best. If I see a video of the appearance, I'll post it. :)
Eeeeee! Neilx2 is the most excellent entertainment news I can think of! And I haven't watched last night's Craig yet, but I can see I have something to look forward to. Yay!
Milk is an awesome movie with a cast that is just out of this world, I loved it..personally I'm still in a tie with Sean and Mickey for best actor, both were out of this world...but I have to ask..how did you not know he was in it??
And I totally agree about Dean, first, he was way too angry in it, and I don't know, there was something just off about him, was he too old, too big, to vocal, or something, but the "past" Dean didn't really make me like him all as much as I do "present" Dean.
Heh, he wasn't mentioned in the previews I saw. That's my only (and rather flimsy) excuse. *g*
I've yet to see The Wrestler (but hope to soon because I adore Aronofsky), so have no opinion on Mickey Rourke's performance in comparison.
*nods* To echo what arabella_hope said, it's like the writers focused all their efforts on Sam and left Dean as an afterthought. His whole characterization felt slapdash. And the teenage (if he really is that young, which I doubt) actor got some mannerisms right, but seemed to lack the heart and true charm that are essential to Jensen's version of Dean.
The audience I was with for Milk was great apart from two fuckers at the back who kept laughing at things that really were not funny. Kid saying he's going to kill himself? Not funny. The line about the bullet going through the drag queen's scalp? Not funny. And so on. God.
