Maybe the answer to your question lies in the fact that the RN has a fuelling depot there, and has had one there for most of the 20th Century so ...

I'm in Watford because I have an IFRS course tomorrow.

I am now the (Acting) IFRS Valuation Actuary at XXX.

Ahh. That means that IFRS is actually relevant for your job. Since I'm not involved in client-facing work any more and have nothing to do with accounting issues, the course was almost totally irrelevant for me. However, because I am in the Audit function, it was mandatory.

Several distilleries on that peninsula -- maybe they generate the work? I made the mistake of staying in Campbelltown. Do you think I could find a decent restaurant? East Coast road nice, but just a shade too twisty for my tastes. The road round Loch Fyne is one of my favourite gentle bits of Scotland, but the weather has to be just right for full effect!
