Ardmore - Thai Pepper - Don't go!!

Oct 13, 2006 21:12

I posted this on Vegan Freaks but thought I'd warn people here, too. Thai Pepper has dishes labeled as vegetarian that have fish sauce!! They also are not careful when assembling dishes and get meat into otherwise vegetarian items.

I'm glad to have found this site, being new to the area. Thanks, Supercarrot!

I've been wondering where the restaurants on this side of town are, like near Ardmore and Narberth, since it seems most are in center city. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if we wanted something close, I want a place we can trust. Not a place that shrugs when you ask why there's fish sauce in a "veg" item.

In Indiana, we had a Thai restaurant that had vegan options on the menu and every server and cook knew what it meant. If I went to a Thai or other Asian place besides that specific one, even if it was labeled veg, I would specify no egg, no fish or oyster sauce.

However, it's my understanding that Philly is a little more progressive and I figured they'd know what "vegetarian" meant. At least we have the all-vegan Chinese places! :)

One more comment - when a restaurant uses a word to describe food on their menu, they should at least have the integrity to look up the basic definition of the word and the consumer should be able to have a reasonable expectation that the standard definition is being used. I choose to frequent restaurants who have such responsibleness instead of simply shrugging their shoulders at my questions.

Yeah lots of asian food that is "vegetarian" has fish sause. If you really care, try making food at home. Trader Joe's has a premade green curry sause which is awesome.

I'm not a new vegan - I make food at home all the time. We go out to eat maybe once every two weeks, if that.
