Author's Notes: Crap, I did it again!! I found this, mostly done, on a thumb drive that I discovered in a bag of computer odds and ends. Oddly enough, most of the files were graphics, but there were a few fic/ficlets/drabbles that had never been published or needed to be polished greatly. So, I punched this one up!
Two sets of chocolate ganache eyes stare deeply into each other. Pain, fear, worry, and a million other emotions filter back and forth between each other. Their gloved hands are tightly, discreetly clasped. They are silent and still in midst a whirlwind of activity. They are silent in the noise, but their eyes communicate everything. This can’t be happening, not now, not to them.
A scream rents through the air causing them to break eye contact. Sara’s eyes close tightly, tears squeezing from their corners. Nick’s eyes widen, scanning quickly over the white sheet and the blood. His brown eyes meet blue ones as the scream turns to a cry. Sara’s hand tugs insistently at Nick’s, silently asking the question. Torn between blue and brown, Nick’s eyes flash back and forth between the two. Finally, Nick turns from blue to brown and bends close. She reads the relief flooding Nick’s eyes and the love.
A smile filters across her face and to her eyes as he voices what she sees in his eyes, “We have a son, a healthy, beautiful, baby boy.”
A cesarean had not been the plan, but it didn’t matter because Gilbert William Sidle-Stokes was finally here.
