There is one thing you'll suffer from and that is the lack of convenience.

I've lost count of the number of places that expect me to lookup up stuff specially rather than it appearing in a few convenient places (which for me would be London goth meetup group, facebook, email, lj). As someone who spends if anything too much time online, I'd be reluctant to do anything that would increase the amount of time / amount of sites I have to look at.

I know when World Goth Day announced they were leaving facebook and all details would only appear on their website they then complained about loosing 80% of their audience.

If I put anything on Facebook, you'd have a point.

If were to ever want to put anything on Facebook, it might even trouble me.

Hence mentioning OpenID/Facebook Connect. People can still comment etc. without problems, and without needing a login.

One thing you could do about the LJ visibility is to create a syndicated feed of your blog(s) on LJ, that way people can still see your blog(s) on their LJ friends page. I'm guessing this would only work for public items, though.

On a separate note - you have a refreshingly-beverage-based blog? Lemme attit!!

Yeah, syndication via RSS is an option. As might be some kind of automatic cross-post with a link.

Only for public stuff, as you say - but an option anyway!

The whisky bog is long dead, I'm afraid. It was mostly duplication or occasional continuation of the Prophet diary on Mono, which I also need to resurrect.

(Sorry for the delayed reply - a bit busy at the moment!)
