The New York Times recently published an interesting article, worthy of discussion, by Michiko Kakutani (copy link below into your browser). It bemoans several features of today's digitalised culture. Such consequences of Web 2.0 have been the rise and rise of 'mash-ups' (e.g. all those YouTube videos of politicians and celebrities being sped up/slowed down to drum and bass music); a general apathy towards subtle and heavy topics, as our interests now point to things which are ostentatiously provocative and gossip-laden; and definite neurological changes, as our brains become more adept at multi-tasking but suffer in enabling our creativity and capacity for deep thought. To lose those two things alone would be a great loss for humanity ( ... )
