You know, I've always loved Sinfest, but the recent storyline where 'Nique supposedly "sent a million men to hell" by flirting and being sexy really annoyed me. It's wayyyyy too close to the mentality that "it's women's fault for tempting men" when they are molested or raped (plus, several of the "examples" are downright wrong: she showed her ass in one of the first strips because Slick told her to, and she wasn't "attention-whoring" when she was cosplaying as a demon girl because she thought that there was nobody around).
I'm still reading Sinfest, as I have for years. But that storylines has become a serious strike against the comic.
Remember that Baby Blue is EVIL. She's laying a spurious guilt trip on 'Nique because she can. It's not about anyone else's soul, it's about getting to 'Nique, & 'Nique's falling for it. DevilCo. (or whatever it's called) has a LOT of money; it can use some to mess with 'Nique. And who says the guys in the line gawking at her weren't robots?
In any case, I don't think any of the characters (other than Buddha, the Dragon, & maybe some of the other supernatural types) are supposed to have perfect judgment. This is 'Nique getting messed up.
That's a possibility, but even so, if you have to go out of your way to fanwank a non-offensive explanation for an offensive storyline, that's still pretty damn upsetting.
I'm not one who takes offense easily, and I'm usually more than willing to assume that something claimed to be offensive was really just an innocent misunderstanding. And don't forget, I've been reading and enjoying Sinfest for many years, so I was biased in its favour to begin with.
But that storyline did offend me. There is no two ways about it.
