I still can't watch Ashes, and I refuse to acknowledge that Sam left (it just makes 0% sense, give that he gave up 2006 on purpose, knowing that the world he'd chosen might not strictly be "reality"), but if he DID have to leave, this is TOTALLY how it would go.
Of course Sam would try to protect Gene at all costs. If he told him, or made the others aware of it, he'd risk losing Gene everything he has (like what happened when Alex and Keats led him to the truth in Ashes). While I can accept that Gene did like Alex in a way (possibly just longing for a companion to try to fill some of the hole Sam left, or more, maybe), the way she deals with him and the things that relate to him, I really don't agree with a lot of the time. She doesn't understand Gene like Sam does.
These gifs/images are stunning <3 It almost makes me want to see it filmed. But then again, if I'd seen something so heartbreaking in actual footage I think my soul would be broken in two XD

Thanks for the tip, I've joined the community as you recommended :D I had to drink heavily before making this post because it almost got me crying.. Everytime I think of this my heart shatters into pieces, I don't think I'll ever recover from watching Ashes. Oh I almost regret I did so. I know what you mean, I had to make myself rewatch some parts of Ashes in order to make these graphics and it was just so painful. Sam must have seen Gene's ghost because that is the only 'acceptable'(at least for me) explanation for him leaving at all in the first place. I refuse to believe he just decided one day to leave behind everything he believed in, and make Gene do such a terrible thing for him, even when he knew how painful it must be for Gene. This is the only thing I'm willing to accept as for what happened in those 'lost years'.
p.s. Could I ask, may I post this on your LoM community? If yes, how can I do it???? (I'm still not very practical with LJ yet, sorry ;_;)
Exactly! There's no way he'd just up and leave without a good reason. And even then, I think Sam'd fight anything that was thrown at him in order to keep that world he chose. I can imagine him and Gene stood at the pub, Gene saying "Go", and Sam saying "What, and leave you here to drown yourself in drink and fag-ends? No way!"
But if the ONLY way to protect Gene was to leave, you've certainly hit it completely. He wouldn't put Gene through all that just for selfish reasons. Sam can be arrogant and selfish sometimes, like anyone, but he truly does care about Gene, and he wouldn't put him through all of that unless it was to protect him <3

Ugh I know..! Fern is absolutely right. This whole story A2A made up is just... I can't handle it. They had to come up with that to break our hearts into pieces! It's so unfair. They ruined everything and I'll never recover from it.. I even hate watching some parts of A2A again to make the graphics, because it hurts too much to go through that again. I was devastated for weeks.. :(
