i have read about this new "hip" phenomenon of atheism. more and more books, movies (da vinci code), and tv specials are coming out to debunk faith. and this media is aimed at high school and college aged people. i agree with the other poster, i don't think these people know what they are saying when they make their profession of non-faith. its not a challenge to god at all. its a challenge to the church. they have experienced something or someone in their past that has let them down. its up to us to listen to them, not debate them. and, by the way, kirk cameron is not the answer.

I don't know that there is "anything to do" here. As an atheist for decades before the so-called "New Atheism" became of interest, I'm happy and contented and don't need the help of Christians, no matter how intelligent and sensitive, like Mr. Tallon. I also want to comment that the way in which many see this issue, Phillip, is extremely intellectually insulting to atheists because you are using any rationalization (rejecting the church and not God, bad experience with a particular church, not loved as a child). It is entirely possible to make one's mind up that there is very likely no God, or as is the case with me, to have no interest in believing in the Biblical God who has a very chequered career ("perfect love," indeed--now that's an argumentative cop-out!)
