The "stigma" of "mental illness"

A "report" reported by The Telegraph claims there is now such a "stigma" on "mental illness" that Churchill and Florence Nightingale might not be able to get their jobs today.

Odd.

When they were alive, there wasn't nearly as much campaigning against the "stigma," nor as much campaigning to get people into "treatment" for "mental illness."

You might agree with Thomas Szasz, who wrote The Myth of Mental Illness. He argues that, while some people are crazy (very out of touch with reality and their lives), many were/are deemed "mentally ill" for political reasons. Further, that the designation mental "illness" implies a complete lack of control over what they are doing, hence a justification to control them.

Yes, I'd agree with that.

I've heard of Szasz before, but I haven't read him. I probably should.
