Renting sucks - landlords, agencies, owners

We've been renting our house here in Wrexham since April 2010. We've been perfectly happy - it's a nice house, it's a good and quiet area. The owner of the property lives near-by and is a good owner, he deals with things as they need dealing with and is a nice bloke ( Read more... )

Ouch. Is there no way you can come to a private arrangement with the landlord?

Not directly, as he can't get "control" back while we're in it without paying the agency some hideous fee, and I'm fairly sure there's a clause in his contract saying that he won't.

This happened to a friend of mine, only he was the landlord involved and not the tenant. Basically the guy moved out for a day (I think he shoved a load of stuff in the loft) and then moved straight back in again. Is that possible for you guys if you like the place that much?

I've considered it, and it's a relatively attractive proposition from my point of view.

I think, though I'd have to double-check to be absolutely certain, that the landlord's contract explicitly includes a clause saying "thou shalt not enter into a contract with the existing tenants for 9 months".

Though it's possible that we could get around that if his wife/son/a.n. other family member were to be the landlord...
