I'd say "anything but join the military" but that's my anti-joining the military bias talking.
I imagine 7 years in the military would be financially a good idea.

*sigh* Well, I had thought anything but military, too, but I have to admit, their benefits for engineers are pretty darn good, and you're guaranteed not to be shipped out...
