I hope it was a ploy--if not, it was awkwardly done. It didn't feel right, somehow. I can't put my finger on it, but it didn't feel like a very good send off for AltLincoln, like they didn't get enough emotional mileage out of it to justify killing off the character. If he's really dead, then it seems gimmicky, like a cheap and easy way to dispose of an inconvenient plot thread, which is no way to treat your characters. I'm not necessarily opposed to him being killed off (although I'll miss him lots), but I expect the payoff to be worth it, and this wasn't.
Now, if it's just a ruse and he comes back, only to find that AltOlivia has started falling for our Lincoln, THAT would interesting.
To me it didn't feel awkward, maybe sudden because before this episode I didn't really see them going there, but within the context it worked for me. And I'm ok with this limited emotional fall out at the moment, because the preview looks like this coming episode is going to be all about the payoff and to this point I trust this set of writers.
There's a part of me that would love to see AltLincoln come back from the grave to catch the killer and then have to deal with AltLiv having feelings for our Lincoln, but then I feel like that would just be more shit being heaped on our Lincoln. I think in the end I'd rather have the cheap death for AltLincoln than to see our Lincoln get screwed again.
