Quietly, he had been sitting in a chair by the open door frame. His insides were squirming with both worry and regret. Earlier, after removing Jeremie's glasses and placing him safely into that bed, he had been pacing. Oh dear God, he hoped his forced choice of action hadn't placed the poor boy in a coma.

When--if?--Jeremie woke up, what could he say? How the hell would Derailed Dexter explain himself to him? This was like a bad dream he couldn't wake up from.

Maybe he could just disappear and stay out of sight, he slowly considered. Yes, maybe he had to stay out of the kid's sight from now on--and he knew how not to be found when it came down to it.

No, I can't just leave. I need to know that Jeremie's okay. ...I need to know what that dark thing inside him is all about. If he left without knowing, then it would bother him for days on end. Then he'd be back at regret all over again. So, no, he had to somehow resolve everything ( ... )

Caught. Jeremie shuddered, not bothering to try and disguise the action. He forced himself to sit up, sliding towards the headboard. He pressed up against it, arms wrapping around his knees.

He stared in the direction of the blob whose scared voice he recognized as Dexter's. "Where are my glasses?" he asked quietly.

The fact that he couldn't see probably scared him the most. Dexter could do anything to him, and it wasn't like he'd be able to even attempt to stop him. The fear in the other's voice completely failed to register.

He clenched his teeth shut after speaking, shaking a bit as he leaned over his knees. The unknown was scary enough but knowing that you couldn't even try to deal with it when it came was petrifying. At least he'd been able to keep a lookout for whatever XANA would throw at him when he'd been at the supercomputer's controls.

"Oh, here," he said, picking up Jeremie's glasses on the night stand and gently placing them into his hands. Then he stepped back.

Jeremie being fearful was of course very reasonable, and Dexter already knew that he was a monster...but not just any kind of monster. And watching him shudder like that had bothered him. It wasn't like he really meant to hurt Jeremie.

At his position, a safe distance away, back to the chair, he tried to speak again. "I, um..." He cleared his throat, and tried again. "Maybe just take a few breaths, and we'll talk."

He may not want to talk at all. He may try to run past you out of the room, and call for helpDexter felt the muscles in his gut tighten as what might happen next came to mind. If Jeremie ran, he'd have to block the doorway. He couldn't let him go cry wolf. From there things could get really, really bad. Dexter would be in really serious trouble, and get shoved into a jail cell or be locked in a room within the Ring ( ... )

Jeremie took the prescription lenses, instantly sliding them onto his face. He sighed a bit with relief as the world came in focus. However, he didn't move from his position, instead curling back up and keeping an eye on the man by the door ( ... )
