Ah, springtime in Gotham. It was that wonderful time of year when little maple shoots started to bloom in the gutters and flies began to buzz around the trash bins after a long, brutal winter. Today was a typical spring day in the city: mostly overcast, occasional tepid rain shower, overall fair temperatures. But when evening fell the air grew cooler and the sky cleared up, leaving the streets glistening wet. The empty alleyways were alive with the constant drip and flow of water trickling through the cluttered downspouts ( ... )

Helena had not heard the man approach, herself being consumed in her artwork, charcoal smeared across her fingertips. She looked up to see the man staring at her, smiling at her. He looked... familiar. She had raised her head at the sound of the voice, some familiar something or other in it sounded misplaced, or insincere or whatever. Though she did not feel completely uncomfortable she was curious as to his person ( ... )

Something told him that his wasn't a very forgettable face.

The Joker watched Helena as she spoke, a small knot forming in the center of his eyebrows. Watched and listened. Not so much listening to what she was saying but rather to how she was saying it. Her sharp British notes tickled his ears in ways that were strangely not new. While he did this, he placed his gloved hands on the slanted handrail, one atop the other, sliding them down until he was standing less to the side of her and more to the front of her, but still on the other side of the guardrail. Chin resting on the back of his hand, he seemed to consider Helena in the same way she was considering him ( ... )

Helena had not been herself in quite some time, feeling forgotten and misplaced in another world with so many other scattered memories, people, and events shoved into some fog in the back of her mind. It was this fog that stopped her from being able to concentrate even on the clear things that she already knew. Her concentration had been so heavily placed on all the things she couldn't remember that she had begun to forget what she could remember.

However, something about the way the man in front of her slid his way across the rail, squinted his eyes, something about the fact that he would not answer her questions but then would ask his own... something struck her gut with a force that she could not describe. This was recognition, but she still could not remember him. She remember the mannerisms, the expressions in his features, but his physical features for some reason, did not strike her as anything familiar ( ... )

Hilde herself, was wandering bad streets for kicks. She had ventured out into her own world with Duo before this, and had been made rather sorry for it. Her wounds had been taken care of but she carried herself carefully and diligently, as if they hadn't been. Shadows crossed her face as she went down the alleyway. She looked both in search of something and like she was traveling for pleasure or exploration.

The 'Gotham city' breeze was cool and refreshing. Hilde had been rather wowed by the architecture here. It was in her turning and neck-craning, chin pointed towards the sky, that she saw the girl. She was sitting and what looked like drawing or writing. What was she doing out here alone? Even as a newbie here, Hilde knew this place was bad for a girl at night. But then again... what was she doing here ( ... )

Helena had been sitting down drawing when she heard a small voice nearby. It was quiet and curious to Helena's ears and herself being quite a curious person peered up from her sketchbook and smiled at the new stranger next to her ( ... )

"Oh, ah." Hilde grabbed the extended hand and gave it a good shake "My name's Hilde Schbeiker, I was wondering if you were the girl I met in the fields on our first mission...I guess so." She smiled along with this girl. "No, I live very far from here, I suppose the same goes for you too? Or is this the city where you are from?" Hilde looked around her, over her shoulders and up and down again getting a good look. "It's really nice," she started off, sidestepping to lean against the railing.

"How long have you been here?" she looked genuinely interested. Well, she was. She was trying to gather up all the bonds and connections she could in this place. Both as a team-builder and a way to get information out of The Ring. Why it picked these people... if she could get to know them, perhaps that bit of information wasn't too far from her solving skills.

Suddenly she jerked up, like someone had tickled her or poked her in a bad spot. "Oh, I'm sorry! You said you were drawing! I must be interrupting!"

She laughed a small breathy laugh that came from deep in her chest, her shoulders bouncing up and down a bit with her laughter. "No, not really. I draw all the time so a chance to stop and meet some new people is good." She smiled, her cheeks rising with her grin.

"And no I'm not from here. I'm well... originally, from London. But, from what I can remember, I haven't been there in quite some time."

Helena took another look at her surroundings, took in the dirt off the sidewalks, the grime. It reminded her of London and the older more shabby parts of England that had been built up then over used and quite abused over time.

"So what are you doing out here, that is, if you don't mind my asking." Helena's voice grew soft and calm, her curiousity always getting the better of her.

There was a time during her separation from Hilde in which she wanted to see what all was there from the pieces of other worlds. Shame on you, Computer, she snarked to herself while working at the nearest wall panel near a barrier. Trusting all who come here will eventually lead to its downfall.

The plastic-like texture of the barrier stretched and finally formed an opening for Ada, after enough button punching and touch screening. There was no avoiding to just look at the opening for moment before walking through.

Ada had found herself in an alleyway (how cliche`), and in the background she heard a disgruntled hiss. Her eyes caught sight of the startled, filthy cat as it leaped and knocked over a metal trash can. The lid came off, spilling its garbage so it almost touched the tip of her black dress-shoes.

Alright...so I'm in some city, but what city? What's so significant about it to be brought here...?As questions made themselves known in her mind, she hadn't missed the sinister chuckle. "Hey baby," said a gruff voice, his accent ( ... )

Helena had been hiding behind the transporter machine in Gotham when she saw the girl woman in the red dress come through. Her first thought was one of interest and her second was one of concern ( ... )

Ada stopped completely as she heard the tired voice of a girl. It nearly startled her like her arrival to the alley spooked that cat.

She turned only her head to look to where the crisper and softer accent came from. It was still very dark in this spot, but she could see the younger female. What peaked her attention of course was her question about the Niven Ring.

What the hell was this kid doing here? The question appeared through Ada's expression.

She clicked the safety on the KM-1SR. "This isn't a place to take a nap in, that's for sure... Yes, I'm from the Ring." Her tone was half suspicious and half laid back as she offered her open free hand for the girl to take.

"Who are you," Ada had to ask.

Helena reached up and grabbed the hand extended to her. She smiled as she wearily stated, "Helena. Helena Campbell. And I wasn't napping I was... resting. I just came from the other side of the city..."

Helena flinched when she went to put weight on her ankle. She raised her foot up off the ground a bit and leaned backwards on the wall behind her to support her weight. She couldn't remember the last time she felt like this. Even on her long adventure with Valentine she had never been so tired or felt so weak. It was almost uncharacteristic of her.

"What's your name?" She smiled at the woman before her. She could very obviously take care of herself but she knew that letting her go out into the city without any warnings would be bad so she tried to stall her a bit, attempting to make small talk while she gathered her thoughts.
