I'm really kind of embarrassed about this

OK, after seeing one too many Starsky & Hutch vids (or, OK, about three vids) and seeing that seasons 1 and 2 are on Hulu, I had to check it out. No ostensibly platonic pair could really have their hands all over each other that much, could they?

Oh, they could. )

Hee! I'd enable you if I had any S/H on hand, but if I do, it's down in the basement... but yes, they really do touch each other that way much.

Constant touching! Constant!

I'm just starting to search out fic -- I've found a couple of good pieces and a few promising rec sites so far. But I'm still mostly absorbed in tearing through the canon. I'm about to finish season 1; most of season 2 is on Hulu; and I have everything else queued up on Netflix.

I'm even starting to get used to the clothes. I am utterly lost.

[[ Besides, this thing is effectively fanfic-on-screen. Melodramatic, angsty, unabashed-id-vortex fanfic. ]]

Some of the episodes really stink, though. I mean, they read like fanfic in a bad way, not just in an angsty way. Like the two-parter "The Set-Up." In my opinion, very poorly written.

But I can only criticize because I love the show so much! I'm...nitpicking out of...devotion. Yeah. Something like that.

Oh, my expectations are set low, trust me! Which means I'm pleasantly surprised much more often than I am disappointed.

LOL!! Fanfic on screen, oh it so is! And the fashion! The whole first season, I kept stopping to giggle and yell 'Bellbottoms!' at the screen. One of the most hilarious moments for me was S2 opener "Las Vegas Strangler" when Hutch pulls his 10in. magnum out from under his pantsleg -- and it totally was not noticeable under there ( ... )

Hee! Not to mention ... Hutch and his Big Gun. :-) It took me longer to get used to the slower pace of editing than it did the fashions (most of them, anyway).

How far have you gotten?

Oh, finished it in August. When I fall for a show, I fall hard and inhale the episodes as fast as is practical.

It reminds me a lot of Due South, to the point that I wonder if the creators of Due South grew up watching this.

I think so, yes. I think S&H pretty much established the "awfully close cop budies" genre. (Check out giandujakiss's vid "The Real Slim Shady" for some explicit parallels with several shows -- not to mention a great vid.) But dS is playing off it even more specifically than that sometimes.

Btw, I love the car! What are you saying! *pout

Hah! I am ... resigned to it. It's not a patch on the Impala in Supernatural or RayK's GTO in dS. And Hutch's Galaxie makes me cry. When I was a teenager I dated this guy whose family's ( ... )

One of my favorite tags is the one for "Survival". Greater love hath no expression than when Starsky purposely gets his partner a 'junk heap'. That must've hurt him. And the pure joy on Hutch's face when he receives that awful pile of scrap, omg...! :D

I am limiting myself to one ep a day at most, b/c I tend to blow through addictions pretty fast, and I want to make this one last. ;)

Hee! That is love.

That's an episode I've only seen once because it's just so painful to see Hutch out there suffering for so long! *sniff*

I seem to have a built-in obsession timer of about two years, so I figure the boys will be delighting and inspiring me for a while yet. Sweet boys!
