Ohhh. What an awkward position to be in, sister-wise. And it's totally NOT FAIR to be expected to train someone who will be starting at the salary you earned through three years of hard work! Can you have a word with your supervisor about this? It really is unjust and I can see how it would be terribly demotivating.
(Nothing useful to say about ambition, lack of, as I seesaw a fair bit on this question myself. Frenetic activity alternating with sloth, that's me :-)
I'm glad you've been having some enjoyable times snowboarding etc., and that you're generally feeling a bit happier. Sorry not to have commented on your LJ before now; I'm awash with preparations for our departure to England and falling dreadfully behind in my f'list reading. Damn the necessity of earning a living, it does get in the way of living my life! *shakes fist in air*
I always bitch and complain at salaries - a couple of years ago we had two people start at once, literally straight out of university, hadn't actually graduated and their starting salary was double mine because they happened to be in sales rather than general admin. *shakes fist* Can't really complain too much though, I earn 150% of what I did three years ago and that's a massive increase compared to pretty much everyone in the entire world.
I hope your preparations are going ok. Solved the conundrum yet of what to bring your in-laws?
It still sounds frustrating, but I'm glad at least that you're earning so much more than you did. Progress is good ♥
Ooh, preparations, yes... I'm up very late doing some night-before-the-night-before preparations. Copying photos to the netbook that I'm taking, so that the in-laws can see what I did on my Japan trip ;-)
As for gifts, I decided to keep them all edible: maple sugar, smoked salmon, two small bottles of ice wine, and a three-tin set of salmon/crab/lobster pâtés. (We may also weaken and bring some maple syrup too.) Everything else was either too much of a gamble, or I wasn't able to find an example of [x] that I was sure they'd like. Still, I've got some ideas for future birthday gifts now!
