*adds hip flask to wish list*

I should have carried a flask with me today and played a drinking game. Because, man. If I had a swig for every time I heard about today being "a historic day" or "a historic occasion", I'd be drunk off my ass ( Read more... )

Umm.. yeah I know what you put in the parentheses, but Obama isn't the one who made the gaffe. It was repeated to him wrong and he hesitated before giving back the correct words. If I'd memorized something and then someone repeated it to me wrongly, I'd hesitate wondering whether I should copy what was just said (which was wrong), or repeat back the right words (and potentially embarrass the other person). In politics, yeah, that kind of hesitation can be deadly, but I don't see that Obama did anything wrong at all. He decided, correctly IMHO, to repeat back the correct words of the Oath. That is not a mistake. If HE had said the wrong words, then we'd never hear the end of it.

I realize that Obama wasn't responsible for the slight slip up. Hence, the reason I put it in my original post. I know the Chief Justice reversed the order of two words. Obama paused and made a false start, realizing this. I'm just saying. That had it been a Republican in his shoes? I feel the press and 90% of Lj would have slammed him for being stupid, not following directions, killing babies, etc etc.

I saw the Obama mistake referred to as a 'stumble' in several news articles and in other LJ entries. That's what it was essentially. A slight mishap at the inauguration. But, it was perceived as 'cute' by most.

Not saying I thought it was a horrid mistake or anything. Just commenting on the way people reacted to it.

I don't think other people would have been as hard at the beginning. It's like President Ford tripping over or falling off of everything. It wasn't funny until he'd done it a lot.

Actually I just heard. Enough fuss was made that his oath was invalid he redid the oath today.
