My Best Friend...

Hi to the extreme few people who will read this!  It seems like LiveJournal is pretty much a thing of the past.  I didn't actually think when I opened my account five years ago that it would happen.  But as it turns out, I myself rarely come here anymore, and judging from my recently updated friends, it feels more like a ghost town than anything ( Read more... )

Glad everything seems to be going well.

I just have to make one comment, though...

I know what you mean about paying a lot to do student teaching. Of course, my first placement was 45 minutes away (I'm doing about 80 miles round trip). Second placement is better...still, I think I would give a limb for a 17 mile drive!

Good thing gas is down since I fill up 2 or 3 times a week!

Where are you looking for jobs?

Duuuuuude, that's bad. I would've rebelled if I were driving that much. 35 miles drives me nuts! Where are you doing your intern teaching?

I'm looking for jobs everywhere... All the states that surround us on their respective DOE and MSBOA-like websites. Not much there yet, but from what I hear, most jobs open right after the schools spring break. So I'm hoping more things are going to open! We'll see!

The experience was good, so I guess the drive was worth it. I just finished up at Parma Western Middle School (just west of Jackson). I'm starting on Monday spending my mornings at Livonia Churchill High doing band and orchestra and my afternoons doing elementary general in Ann Arbor. It'll be kind of crazy...

I'm pretty excited, though, because my Co-op Teacher at Western is pregnant and offered me the long-term sub position when she goes on maternity leave in April. I'll get paid to teach! I'll have to do the 45-minute one-way drive every day again, but as long as gas prices stay don't I'm not going to complain.

I think as long as you are flexible and willing to look outside of Michigan, you should have some more luck finding a job. I've heard that schools are trying to offer teachers really good retirement packages, too, so you never know! Are you just looking into high school, or anything relating to music?

Wow, well you're getting the full spectrum this semester! That's kinda weird you have to drive to two different locations for Co-op stuff. But hey, so long as you don't mind doing it, I guess it's not that bad! Yeah I'm really hoping about these gas prices... Oil is so cheap right now, I can't even believe it's as high as it is. But oh well, they can get it so they may as well charge for it.

Yeahhhhh I'm going to be flexible. A teacher in Wayland actually told me something similar about the retirement packages. So I'm really hoping that's going to open something! As for what position I'm looking for... I'm gonna keep that one squared around middle and high school band. I'm not qualified for strings or choir and I found out last semester that elementary general music isn't for me. Soooo I'm a little bit restricted, but I'm ok with that. I don't really want to settle. I still work at Target, so I can go full time there if I don't find what I'm looking for. Pay is about the same, heh... So we'll see! How about you?
