Two books I loved! Have you read any of Martinez's other ones? I liked them both lots. And I just LOVE the Kitty books- they're the best of the "occult female" genre, to my mind.

I actually grabbed Gil's because I'd been hearing good things about Martinez's next one, and I really thought I should start with this one. I have In the Company of Ogres in my to-be-read pile.

Vaugh has moved into my "favourite writers" list quite quickly. I'm waiting for Kitty IV eagerly.

"Ogres" totally rocks. I had laugh-out-loud moments with it, which tended to alarm the cats. :) "Nameless Witch" also had some excellent moments- but it's a bit more serious. Despite the demonic duck familiar. :) And, more seriously, a few instances in which Martinez's grammar was not what one would hope ("him and I" sorts of things. I ought not to notice such in a good book... and yet, I do).

I will read absolutely ANYTHING Vaugh writes at this point; I love the "Kitty" books that much.

Also- I really love your reviews/posts. I've found a lot of books I've enjoyed through them. Thank you!

Thank you! It means a lot to be told that.

I love Kitty Goes to Washington--at least partly b/c of the hometown factor. Also, it amuses me to picture Alette as being a great deal like Katherine Graham, late publisher of the Washington Post.

Had to look Graham up. Just from the Wikipedia article, I could see how you could make a case for the resemblance. :)

For perspective: I tend to hate vampires. Any immortal whose major passion is proliferating junior high school social politics bores and annoys me no end- to the point that as best I can, I avoid reading about such.

I really liked Alette. If i were an immortal vamp... well, I wouldn't make her exact choices, but they still seem sane to me. I think she's a great take on the whole thing.

(If I were an immortal vamp, I'd be interested in minimizing the destructiveness of the disease, AND in using the extra time in becoming the best damn goldsmith EVAR. This is why vamps that use their power for petty politics annoy me to the point of refusing to read about them.)

After reading and enjoying Kitty and the Midnight Hour (on your rec) I'll be heading out to B&N to pick this one up too. Thanks for your reviews.

There is a third, too. It will be up in the reviews soon. It's also recommended.
