I've never really been able to get into fantasy, and I read so much science fiction when I was a teenager that I've never been able to really lose myself in it. I do try to read everything, though.

Been involved in my library's '23 book challenge' but it's easy - 23 books in three years. Three years? It will be a little more than 4 months for me. Unlike my librarian friend, though, I read what I normally would read and didn't just chose 'short' reads. I finished my 15th book last night.

I have read two non-fiction while involved in this - Here Comes the Sun, which is supposed to be the 'spiritual journey of George Harrison' but I think it's more like what the author would like us to believe about the spiritual journey of George Harrison. I also read "Into The Wild".

If I weren't the age I am, I'd go back to school to become a librarian. It sounds like heaven.

Alas, working in a library gives you less time to read than you might think.

I started doing these "read recently" posts in response to Livejournal's own "50 book challenge" and something I read in the way of news somewhere that said that a modern American was considered "well-read" if s/he had read 3 books in a year . . . so I started wondering exactly how many I had read myself. I was not surprised to find out that I beat the 3-books thing in about a week.

Sharper than a Serpent's Tooth by Simon R. Green

I don't think than Green's improving with time - but hopefully we're pretty much at the end of this series. Fun, yes - but not as engaging as the earlier books.

Well, it doesn't help that he's not a very good writer to begin with. Good storyteller, yes. Good writer? Not so much.

And, of course, it's hard for the end of a series to be as engaging as the beginning, when everything was fresh and new. The better writers can do it, but . . .

So now he needs to start something new. Fortunately, he seems to have the imagination for it.
