Recommended for those who are interested in such things, but I suspect that those who most need to read it will not.

Truer words were never spoken. I hung around quite a few of those in late high school, early twenties. One of the more humorous comments was somebody telling me I was the reincarnation of Merlin. Oh...I'm reincarnated from a fictional character....(Cosby) rrriiigghhhttt.... (/Cosby)

At one point, there were five different 'reincarnations of Merlin' wandering around Brighton (UK). AND they managed never to be in the same room at the same time...

So what sort of approach does the Terence Hines book take? I've been a bit put off by the James Randi school of debunking, which seems to come down to "if there's any way, however unlikely, that you could have cheated, I'll assume you did, but you should trust everything I say/demonstrate no matter how many holes there are in it". I'd be interested in a well-thought-out book on pseudoscience though, it's always good to add to the armoury.

Ummm.

Since I've never seen Randi say anything like that nor heard of him doing so, I'm trying to find something polite to say here that neither engages your issues nor makes it sound like I'm insulting or attacking you and I'm not coming up with much.

So I can't tell you if this book is what you're looking for. You'll have to check for yourself.

Fair enough. I have seen him take that approach - I'm thinking specifically of one of the TV programs that was shown over here, I think on homeopathy (which I am not a fan of, btw) - but beyond that, I can't remember any details. I haven't read his books, and clearly should do at some point.
I'll have a look at the Terence Hines book if I see a copy in the bookshop though.
And I don't feel insulted or attacked :) Just disagreed with, which is not a problem...
