I do enjoy Alan Dean Foster - his sense of humour is skewed similarly to mine. The first book of his I read was Glory Lane (not to be confused with RAH's Glory Road) - in which, at one point, the heroes finally realize they're in Hell because the air conditioning in the car won't work. That's fairly close to my definition of Hell too :-)

The Pip and Flinx books are very enjoyable reads.
