Man, oh man, aren't they congratulating themselves over keeping it a secret that an NYT reporter was kidnapped by the Taliban:

There was a story, though I'm too lazy to search for the link now, that the driver joined the Taliban - which would make the concern for his life understandably less.

Also, I like the argument, in theory. That said - Mike Wallace isn't the NYT, so I won't say that he speaks for the whole media establishment. However the NYT has had zero problem publishing stories which endangered the lives of soldiers and increased the difficulty of the war effort tremendously. I would use instances of the NYT's own hypocrisy here for a more substantive argument.
