When you read a mass-media story on a subject you're familiar with, and you take note of the flat-out inaccuracies and grotesque simplifications in that story, realize that the stories on subjects you're not familiar with are just bad:

It might be an interesting, even an encouraging, story if you could figure out what the fuck the writer was trying to get across. It makes defense journalism look crisp.

This is basic journalism procedure; it's what enables journalists who cannot correctly fill out their mileage reimbursement forms to write about the collapse of Enron. -- Dave Barry

A slow speed city gas fired "prime mover" was the original "on site cogen" for decades in some cities. As was a Delco-light water cooled with it's coolant plumbed to dumb cast iron radiators in the basement. It's why some old farmhouses had floor grated in the first floor and from first floor ceiling to second floor bedrooms. The rediscovery of "Listeroid" engines that can run on WVO or SVO is an interesting niche.

There was a town in N Indiana that IIRC had it's city power plant selling steam to apartment blocks close to it. Cogen ain't new. Trigen is a silent presence in several cities still selling chill water and steam..

I blame the editors. That and the peculiar American media perversion of recruiting journalists who are people who studied for a vocational degree in journalism and know nothing else, rather than using folks who know something -- anything -- about the real world and then giving them some basic training in journalism. The result is stories written by know-nothing numpties.

s/volt/watt/ and it would actually make sense.
