Canada does have troops in Afghanistan. In fact one of their snipers there was credited with the longest range sniper kill ever.

I can barely imagine that. Even with a bigass scope, that's a tiny target, and the winds pretty much have to be constant over that entire distance. That's completely amazing.

Nah it was some Canadian official... either RCMP or politician, I forget which. It was an article about exactly what you've said here - how Canada is desperately trying to turn the focus off the fact these guys were Muslim, ostensibly to prevent a backlash against the wider Muslim community (since a mosque or two has already been vandalised).

Dude, there's a huge fucking debate over the Islam aspect. You can't just read one article and go "Oh, I understand everything about what's going on now!"

What people are really trying to figure out is why these particular Muslims got into terrorism. We've got hundreds of thousands more who aren't, after all. So why these 17? That's called "investigation" and it's far more useful than "Holy shit! Islam!" If we have some peaceful Muslims, and some Muslims who are terrorists, then if we want to distinguish the two groups - perhaps to identify terrorists in the future - then "Muslim" is not a good criterion.
