"Ripped" at the bar with musicology grads

yeah I can go back and forth between being a social butterfly to being socially inept. If I get confused, that sort of thing happens. I hope the waitress is happy at least.

I remember someone (perhaps you) saying during the break on the first day of History of Theory that he came across as really intelligent and thoughtful. I totally agree. From the impression I get from that one class and from reading some of his textbook, I really like what he does and the way he approaches music.

Anti-theory sentiments in general really unsettle me. I read an article by Kofi Agawu on it this morning and it made me feel a lot better. I recommend it and it's on JSTOR (hooray!):

"Analyzing Music under the New Musicological Regime"

http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0277-9269(199722)15%3A3%3C297%3AAMUTNM%3E2.0.CO%3B2-P

If the link doesn't work, just go to http://www.scholar.google.com and type in 'Agawu and "new musicology"' as your search and it'll come up as the first article.

Sounds good. :)

Just a warning before I introduce you to anyone, this is motrin bitter. He spoke longingly of the "death of music scholarship" in 50 years' time. It wasn't humourous or the product of a fleeting anxiety. He seemed to genuinely hate music scholarship.
