Anyone been to Northern Cyprus lately?

For those of you who don't follow me on Twitter or on Facebook, or who haven't been following me lately.
I'm trying to figure out how to go to Cyprus from Turkey without violating the Cyprus law as well as an international embargo.

My current boyfriend lived in Norther Cyprus for a while and tells me that he doesn't think you should have a problem crossing the border, although he understands that you can only do so for the day. He also says it's been twenty years since he left the country and he's not sure how things are now.

He also suggests contacting nhw, aka Nicholas Whyte, who is a friend of ours and by profession a diplomat (he used to work for International Crisis Group, now works for, hu, Diplomats for hire or something like that. :-)
