I had an appointment with an eye doctor today. He was wearing a tie with an eye chart on it, lol.

As it turns out my right eye is apparently really shit. Well, not really shit, not like legally blind shit, but short sighted enough that I couldn't even see the letters until they got pretty damn enormous. My left eye, which has apparently I guess ( Read more... )

Try a more upscale men's shop. As in, the guys who sell the suits. They tend to not question why you want the shirts, they're just happy to measure and sell the right size to you.

Yeah I'm thinking that's the best option, but it's going to wait until I build up more money again, I suppose.

There used to be a Hallensteins in the central city where the staff were really great like that. I even have a picture of it! ....Yeah.

Yay glasses! I'm happy for you that you've got that all sorted out now - eyes on top of everything else must have been more than a pain.

Re. optometrists steering you towards the fancy glasses - I've had people urge me towards $800 frames (without lenses in the charge!) when I turn up places in holey jeans and my old falling-apart glasses. I think it's just part of the script, they hope one day one of us will turn out to be a millionaire and throw all our money at some hideous wonky things.

I hope you have fun with the harakeke. A woman came into the shop today who had teeny tiny kete earrings - properly woven, just in absolute miniature. Very neat.

I actually only booked the appointment yesterday (this particular place reserves a time during the afternoons for "emergency" exams) and I broke my glasses, like... late last Friday night? I can't believe it took me nearly a week, because it feels like it was pretty high on my priority list the whole time, I'm just... kind of ineffective at everything. I start out doing something and then the next thing I know I'm busy with something completely unrelated and I have no idea how it happened, which I suppose is a fairly universal problem, it just happens so often now.

Teeny tiny! Delight! In theory I could probably do teeny tiny, but with the putiputi it's still attached to the base of the leaf so you're basically just working with however big it is to start with. I need to remember to get photos of what I've been learning so far.
