Please don't be upset if I don't seem to be celebrating much. I'm still trying to work through exactly how I feel about this and the possible implications, particularly of a country that is specifically "a friend, but not an ally" of the US. Yeah, it's all a bit .. I mean, is this really going to do anything except provide a morale boost for the US and a vengeance boost for Al Qaeda? I don't even know what to think.

I'm not going to lie, the morale boost scares me. There are certain groups in the US that are either scarily patriotic or at least pretend to be so, and they tend to be very right-wing and very pro-military. Considering how the US is currently bullying other governments (particularly with copyright legislation), I'm not sure that them having their vision of themselves as the bestest ever big ol' heroes in the world bolstered is a good thing.

I very much doubt the war will end, Guantanomo will close, civil liberties will be restored to US citizens or anything along those lines.

Yeah, not liking this much at all. I can understand being relieved and even happy he's dead, but the amount of utter glee some people seem to be reacting with just freaks me out.

Hoooly Mother of God I watched the Carebears intro the other day (along with a bunch of other 80's and 90's tv shows - Duck tales, awoohoo!) and I'm sure I don't remember it being that insipid. Hahaha. But I still think Beastly's awesome. Haha.
