mix: prom '98: wonderful tonight

May 04, 2009 08:43

I'm pretty sure this was llamabitchyo's idea, but we decided to make music mixes of our respective proms. Because yes! Because prom was awesome! So here's my mix. Keep in mind, I went to prom in 1998. Which was a weird year for music, and especially for kids who started high school in 1994 when Nirvana and Pearl Jam and grunge were the height of everything ( Read more... )

Man. This was such an important year in music for me because it's the year I turned on the radio. I had always just listened to oldies and classic rock, so I have attachments to a lot of these songs because they were the first ~new~ songs I listened to.

Your icon is great. Hahaha.

And yes! It was a fab year. I mean, a lot of these songs are from all throughout my high school experience, but man. I remember hearing Semi-Charmed Life so many times and wondering what crystal meth was. (They didn't bleep that part in Ohio like they do here.) You know what I did forget? The Goo Goo Dolls. Iris. Ahaha. IRIS.

God, I love that song to death. It's not good, but it's SO 1998.

Oh man, 1998. I'd forgotten how weird you were. Tragic Kingdom and Third Eye Blind were the first CDs I ever bought.

Third Eye Blind was so great. Weird that I didn't realize that song was all about drugs.

My senior prom, had I gone, would have been in 1998 too. So many memories! *steals* (Harley went to prom Saturday night -- I have no idea how my little sister became such a social butterfly, but I do know that when I was in hs it would have been weird that she went to prom both her freshman and sophmore years -- and she said at afterprom they had a lifesize candyland game. I'm kinda jealous! We didn't have that at afterprom! Although we always had senior twister, and they apparently don't do that anymore, so whatever.)

Afterprom was about a million times better than actual prom! We didn't have life-size candyland, but that is SO AWESOME. We had giant twister, an inflatable obstacle course, sumo wrestling (in those giant suits), and a casino. It was awesome.

I did go to afterprom both junior & senior years; you're right that it was WAY BETTER than actual prom. I was trying to find the pictures this weekend b/c my now-considered-brother-in-law Jay is one of the guys I was at afterprom with my jr year, but I think that all my pictures are buried in storage where I can't get to them.

Senior Twister was done usually the same week as Senior Skip Day, and basically they set up twister mats out front of the school & the seniors skipped class all day and it was a huge competition. We had teams of four to start out with, and then the first two who fell for each team were eliminated and the two remaining were paired up with another team, and so on. It was awesomely fun, good music, lots of laughs. There are a few things I didn't hate about high school, lol.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who liked high school :P My school wasn't that cliquey. Or maybe it was because I transcended cliques by being on the dance team? I'm not sure. I had fun though!
