boomingvoice asked for a Nick something-or-other in the style of JD Salinger, and this is what came out. I am not sure it's successful, but I think we can all see the Holden Caufield in Nick Carter, so um. Yeah.

She climbs on top of him and Nick lies flat on the carpet, arms stretched out to feel the fabric squirm and slide between his fingers and against the bare skin of his back like a restless animal, like a creature trying to crawl inside him. )

And the poor broken horn. That's a great image along with Aaron's explanation of why it's better.

Brian was one of the nicest people Nick knew. Brian was never a phony. <3333333333333
When Nick's on stage he feels alive and real and perfect, even though he knows that performing is pretty much the opposite of all that. i like this line even better out of context. it's like the most hopeful part for me. because it shows he's a little disilusioned.
THE UNICORN!!! i was hoping you'd change the ending and not break it. but then you get aaron to say he liked it even before he realized it was broken or maybe even because it was broken. i just. UNICORNS AREN'T EVEN REAL. andrea, i insist we elope.

It's funny because I heard this great story on this American Life a few weeks ago about a woman who goes through life up until she's like 30 thinking that unicorns are real. She thinks they're like, an endangered species or something. And I kept thinking about that while writing this. Like, how can anyone believe unicorns are real? Except it's not really that fantastic of a notion. It's just a horse with a horn. Lots of animals have horns! Anyway. Tangent :P

I always really enjoy the nick/aj dynamics you write. They're uncomfortably real and sibling-y, and I am not really into the nick/aj (nick & aj, whatever)? But I like yours.
The Brian paragraph was lovely too. I know you have trouble with him? And I guess you can sort of tell, since maybe he comes across as generic good guy, but it doesn't hurt this fic at all. I loved the "It really did taste like wedding cake." (why? I don't know!)
and all of the Aaron stuff was breathtaking. And heartbreaking. I think you did good.
