I can't believe I actually like something from MSNBC, but their article about the hypocrisy of Katy Perry is really awesome:

I fast forwarded through it, but not before I noticed that she can't actually sing and sounded terrible without sweeteners and backing tapes. So, offensive, and lacking talent. AWESOME.

Ya know, I really like the song but never really thought about it in the way this article paints it. It's SO true. I can completely see why someone would be offended by this.

It's exploitative and kind of gross, and the fact that she doesn't see anything wrong with it makes me think she's either homophobic herself, or just plain doesn't get why someone would think that saying that being gay "isn't what good girls do" could possibly be offensive to, you know, actual gay people.

I agree completely. I never really looked at it that way.

It's a really good article that points out some very specific things. My husband and I were in the car the other day when the song came on...and I told him, I didn't like what she was saying...and he said, yeah but you can't deny it's catchy. And he's right. *sigh*

Just because something is catchy doesn't mean we have to fall in line and like it. This is a song (and an artist) with a message that is really quite offensive. Supporting her just because "it's catchy" by giving her even a moment of my time feels like a betrayal of my values. Which maybe sounds exaggerated, but I feel really strongly about not supporting people and products and companies that are homophobic or contribute to that mindset.

I agree, unfortunately the casual listener doesn't get that. All they hear is a cutesy voice in a song with a hook. I would never buy a CD by her, because I just don't like *her* regardless if she can turn a hook. And the fact that Perez Hilton was kissing her ass on his site is one of the reasons I don't even read him anymore. Talk about a fraud, here he is outing people left and right, because he's gay and proud and thinks others should be...but since he's getting paid by Capital records, it's okay to promote homophobia? He's the worst example of an out and proud person there is.

That's the same exact reason I stopped reading Perez! And you know what? I don't miss it at ALL.

*snicker*

I don't even know the songs this article is about, but I can say that in concept, I completely agree. :D

I tend to prefer msnbc to the other news networks. But mostly because of Rachel Maddow. I have a little crush on her.

Their morning news team said some really offensive things about Thomas Beatty, which is why I don't like them. I'm sure their entire news division isn't like that, but...

Ah yeah, I have no experience with the morning people. The evening people are pretty liberal.
